Skein is a Shopify app that lets yarn shops sell pattern kits by size: customers choose a size and colours, and the kit is sold as the real yarn at checkout. This policy explains what Skein collects from a store and why.
What we collect
- Store access. The store’s domain and the access token Shopify issues when the app is installed, so the app can work in the store’s admin.
- Product data. For the products a merchant uses in kits: product and variant IDs, titles, prices and weights. Skein reads these to build each kit’s recipe and keeps a list of which products each kit uses.
- Orders, read but not kept. When a merchant opens Skein’s Kit orders page, Skein reads the store’s recent orders from Shopify to show which kits were bought, in which size and colours: order numbers, dates, line items and fulfillment status. It does not read customers’ names, email addresses, phone numbers or addresses, and it does not save any order data on its servers.
- No customer data. Skein does not ask for access to customers. The colours a shopper picks travel with their cart inside Shopify; they reach Skein only when the merchant views the order as above.
How we use it
Only to build kit recipes, keep them up to date when the products they use change, and show the merchant their kit orders. Recipes are saved on the kit products in the merchant’s own store, where Shopify reads them at checkout. We do not sell data, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except the infrastructure providers that host the app.
Security
Data is stored on servers with restricted access. Our logs do not record request contents, and store domains in logs are replaced by a one-way hash.
Retention and deletion
- Uninstalling Skein deletes everything it stores on its servers for that store.
- Shopify’s data deletion requests for a store are handled the same way.
- Because Skein stores no customer or order data, there is nothing to export or delete for an individual shopper.
